Prepare to be transported back to 1992, Poona, for a rare musical experience. I’m thrilled to announce the release of two previously unreleased recordings featuring the legendary Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia on Flute and the maestro Ustad Zakir Hussain on Tabla. These recordings, a true treasure, were gifted to us years ago by Robert Klaassen, a regular visitor to our DesiYUP events, and now, we’re finally sharing them with you.

This isn’t just a recording; it’s a time capsule, capturing a moment of pure musical brilliance. Robert’s generosity has allowed us to unearth this gem, a testament to the power of music to transcend time and place.

This rediscovery feels particularly poignant as we prepare for the release of “Moving Mountains”, our upcoming documentary portrait of Ma Anand Sheela. Sheela’s story, like this music, takes us back to a specific era within the Osho commune. “Moving Mountains” offers a unique glimpse into Sheela’s life, not defined by the headlines, but through her own reflections on her journey, from her time with Osho to establishing her own Ashrams ‘Matrusaden’ and ‘Bapusaden’ in Switzerland, where she provides care and support to individuals facing various health challenges. It’s a story of resilience, reinvention, and the search for meaning – themes that resonate deeply with the experiences of many of us.

Robert Klaassen himself has eloquently documented his personal journey within the Osho community in India in his Dutch-language blog. His reflections offer valuable context and insight into the era, providing a personal counterpoint to the personal narrative and perspective of Ma Anand Sheela explored in “Moving Mountains”.

These newly discovered recordings are also a tribute to the legacy of Ustad Zakir Hussain, who left us in December 2024. It’s our homage and appreciation to honour his legacy. These recordings of Chaurasia and Hussain are more than just music; they are a piece of history, a snapshot of a time and place that continues to fascinate and intrigue. We invite you to listen, to reflect, and to join us as we delve deeper into the stories and experiences that have shaped the world around us. More news about the release of Moving Mountains” will be shared very soon.

With Love,

Mahesvari
