In collaboration with music video production team Flamboyant Media, we produced the first official music video for Dutch singer Sangeeta Bhageloe. Tammo Heikens, who is the owner of Studio 108, composed the song Ajhun Na Aaye Balamwa.

Music video

The background of this romantic love song with a bittersweet taste of longing and spiced with separation was shot in the botanical garden in Wassenaar. Loosely translated, the lover complains to her friends that her lover didn’t come today to enjoy her company. This song is based on the Raag Kaushik Dhwani, and sung within the Kirana Gharana, stylistic school of Khyal.

Raag Kaushik Dhwani

It was a long cherished wish of Sangeeta to sing a composition in the Raag Kaushik Dhwani. “When I hear the melodies of the raga Kaushik Dhwani I experience a deep feeling from within, this raga arouses my subconsciousness and that makes it so mysterious. “Music to me is a form of devotion. Music for me is a way to God. It is one of the most beautiful ways to express myself. Music to me is love. Music helps me express my every emotion. The deep feeling of happiness I experience through music is incomparable to anything else,” says Sangeeta.

Meera Bai

The inspiration to visualise strong emotions such as longing in contrast with the calm surrounding of nature as our shoot location came from the famous poet Meera Bai (1500). She once wrote a poem:

Don’t forget love;
it will bring all the madness you need
to unfurl yourself across the universe.

Marketing tool

A great marketing tool for musicians to engage artistically with their audience is a music video. Since Sangeeta would be part of upcoming DesiYUP concerts, we financially invested in this music video to strengthen our future collaboration. We thought of everything: the location, storyline and also costume. Sangeeta is dressed in a traditional Indian attire by fashion label Banarsi for this music video.
