The Rotterdam Gharana pays tribute to the rich Indian Classical Music tradition.

Aura Rascón opens the night with the Romantic Raag Yaman. In the second part, Diepak Ramjiawan sings joyful Bhajans and Kirtans with his inspiring voice. The earthy voice of Prewien Pandohi-Mishre charms the hearts of the listeners with Ragas Bhupali, Bhimpalasi and Bageshri.

Accompanying the Muses of Mindfulness on percussion are Tarang Poddar and Aravinda Tedjai. The closing act is an explosive mélange of emotions, traditions and techniques.

Aura Rascón
bansuri

Born in Mexico, Aura trained in western classical music on traverse flute (University of Sofia). She specialized in bansuri and Hindustani Classical Music from Codarts and studied at Vrindaban Gurukul under the tutelage of Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia, with whom she has toured as a Bansuri accompanist. Aura has collaborated with an extended number of renowned artists from different music traditions, performing in music festivals across the globe. She is active as a soloist, as well as an initiator and composer of various cross-over music formations.

Diepak Ramjiawan
vocals & harmonium

Born in Rotterdam, Diepak Ramjiawan is a gifted singer who performed twice for DesiYUP: Muses of Mindfulness 2021 and Many Faces of Love 2022. In the past he had the honour to perform as a supporting act for Ustad Zakir Hussain. Since two years Diepak started to produce spirituals and devotional Mantra music. Diepak believes that music connects us to our inner self. “What this connectivity truly signifies is the listener’s personal experience.”

Prewien Pandohi-Mishre
vocals & harmonium

Prewien is an experienced vocalist from Rotterdam and performed multiple times for DesiYUP and Sacred Songs. Prewien received his musical training under the tutelage of Shree Koustuv Ray and graduated from Codarts. He specializes in North Indian classical and semi-classical music styles. He is the founder of Rasique Music school where he teaches Khayal, bhajan and mantra’s. Prewien is also associated as music teacher with SKVR, an institute for performing arts in Rotterdam.

Tarang Poddar
tabla

Tarang Poddar is an accomplished Tabla player and drummer from India. He has studied the North Indian classical tradition of the tabla and graduated from the Codarts, majoring in jazz and Indian music. His knowledge of traditional North Indian rhythmic concepts adds his own unique modern compositions and performance practice. He is constantly exploring the intersection of musical ideas, cultures, and traditions, and explores what it means to adapt what is in your roots to make it your own.
