On Friday 6th of October Debasmita Bhattacharya (Sarod) and Gurdain Rayatt (Tabla) will perform in De Nieuwe Kerk in The Hague.
Debasmita Bhattacharya is creating shockwaves across musical circles in her native India and beyond with her remarkable talent on the sarod and powerhouse performances. She is joined on the tabla by Gurdain Rayatt, with blistering dynamism and a flair for sumptuous rhythmic balance. Immerse yourself into the deep unfolding of ragas.
This concert is a collaboration with Darbar Festival: Darbar Festival was established in 2006 and takes place annually in London. It gives audiences the opportunity to explore some of the best improvised classical music in the world. At Darbar, we make it easy for you to enjoy the various traditions as we are the only festival that puts on Hindustani (North Indian), Carnatic (South Indian) and Dhrupad (India’s oldest yet timeless tradition) all on one stage, together right here in London.

Sandeep Virdee is the founder and Artistic Director for the Darbar Arts Culture Heritage Trust in the UK, which champions Indian classical arts. Sandeep provides an insight into the place for Indian classical music in contemporary life and how it was impacted by India’s partition and independence from British rule 70 years ago. He explores his vision for the urgent need for strengthening a platform for Indian classical music in Europe and beyond in the coming decades.
