The Start of a Journey

Every journey together has a beginning and ours started in July 2012 and since then, Shammi Pithia and I are connected with each other through his divine music.

Our mission was to create something meaningful together and on the 23rd of February 2014 in LantarenVenster in Rotterdam we succeeded in doing just that.  Our adventure received blessings from the living legend and God of bansuri (Indian flute) Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia. Our crossing over gathered an incredible support system and with the dedication of beautiful souls we gave the audience a lifetime experience.

Our musical expedition served its purpose; we introduced a new genre of melodies for especially the Indian (NRI) and Sarnami (PIO) community in the Netherlands.  And our message to cross-connect artists got a standing ovation.

As an organizer I just have one mission and that is to introduce meaningful music in my country, music that is hardly known over here, but is acknowledged in so many other countries.

I’m more than grateful that creative composer Shammi Pithia trusted DesiYUP to be part of his musical voyage. Working with him has been a superb experience and we are seriously thinking of doing another concert together.

The most remarkable moment of these two days of musical extravaganza was that a fan performed in front of his icon, Shammi and Pandit Hariprasad share the love for bansuri, and in fact Shammi got inspired to play bansuri because of Pandit Hariprasad.

As far as I can tell, Shammi’s compositions touched the hearts of the audience. Some people cried of happiness and some said that they never felt so much at peace during a concert. But the best compliments came from Panditji who praised all the artists from their hard work, professionalism and expertise.

With so many positive compliments in our pockets DesiYUP is continuing with this global musical movement.
